Patinato brushes are abrasive tools used in the natural stone industry to impart a unique texture and character to stone surfaces. The term "patinato" or "patina" refers to the aged and natural appearance a surface acquires over time. These brushes are designed to artificially create this aesthetic effect.

Structure and Working Principle of Patinato Brushes

Patinato brushes typically consist of nylon or plastic bristles containing synthetic diamond or silicon carbide particles. These brushes are used by attaching them to automatic floor polishing or cleaning machines. As the brush rotates, the bristles contact the stone, gently abrading the softer grain or areas of the stone without damaging the harder parts.

As a result of this process:

• The surface of the stone becomes rough and textured.

• Natural veins and color transitions become more visible.

• The stone takes on an old and rustic appearance.

Patinato Brush Types

Patinato brushes vary depending on the abrasive material and grit number they contain.

1. Silicon Carbide Brushes:

   • It is the most common and cost-effective.

   • Ideal for relatively soft stones such as marble and travertine.

   • It is used to create a rough and matte texture on the surface.

2. Diamond Brushes:

   • It is longer lasting and more effective.

   • It is used to create texture on very hard stones such as granite, basalt and quartzite.

   • As a result of the treatment performed with these brushes, the surface can be both textured and slightly shiny.
