What are Copper Bonded Pads?
Copper-bonded pads are polishing pads manufactured by combining abrasive diamond grains with a metal binder (usually copper or copper alloys). This binder makes the pad very hard and durable. They are the hardest and most aggressive compared to ceramic and resin-bonded pads.
Features and Advantages of Copper Bonded Pads
Maximum Aggressiveness: The copper bond holds the diamond grains so firmly that the pad quickly removes the toughest surface imperfections, old coatings, and deep burrs. This is the most effective first step, especially on rough or irregular concrete surfaces.
Longevity: Since they are harder and denser than other types of pads, they are extremely resistant to abrasion and can be used for much longer periods of time.
High Speed Cutting: Because they are so aggressive, they can quickly shape the concrete surface and prepare a smooth base for subsequent polishing stages.
Wet Use: These are typically used for wet polishing. Wet use prevents dust from spreading, cools the surface, and extends the life of the pad. They can also be used dry, but this can generate more dust and heat.
Areas of Use
Initial Concrete Polishing: Copper-bonded pads are used at the very beginning of the concrete floor polishing process, the coarse abrasion stage. They are ideal for removing large imperfections and creating a suitable surface for subsequent, finer-grit pads.
Floor Preparation: They are also used to remove old coatings or level the floor before applying a new coating (epoxy, paint, etc.).
Very Hard Concretes: They are indispensable for polishing especially very hard and dense concrete types.
